How to activate RustyRecorder

  1. 1. Buy a license

    Purchase RustyRecorder through our checkout page. Whop handles payment and issues your license key.

  2. 2. Open the RustyRecorder product page

    Checkout hands you straight to it, and you can come back to it any time from your Whop orders. Down the left is a sidebar of apps — right now there's one, Software, and everything you need is inside it.

  3. 3. Get your key and the installer from Software

    Opening Software generates your license key, and the download links sit in the same place. They point back here to rustyrecorder.com and always serve the current version, so the same links keep working for future updates.

  4. 4. Open RustyRecorder

    Install and launch the desktop app. You'll see an activation screen before you can use it.

  5. 5. Paste your key

    Paste your license key into the activation screen. RustyRecorder validates it and unlocks the app on this device.

“Windows protected your PC” — expected

RustyRecorder isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen stops the installer the first time you run it. That warning is about the missing signature, not about the file being unsafe. Click More info, then Run anyway.

“RustyRecorder is damaged and can't be opened” on macOS — expected

RustyRecorder isn't notarized by Apple yet, so Gatekeeper quarantines the app the moment it's downloaded and refuses to open it — it isn't actually damaged. Try this first:

  1. Drag RustyRecorder.app out of the mounted .dmg into Applicationsfirst — don't run it straight from the disk image.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) the app and choose Open, then confirm Open again in the dialog. This bypasses Gatekeeper for that app specifically, unlike a plain double-click.

If it still says the app is damaged, macOS has quarantined it more aggressively (common on Apple Silicon). Open Terminal and run:

xattr -cr /Applications/RustyRecorder.app

Then open it normally. You only need to do this once per download — future launches work like any other app.

Having trouble? A license key can only be active on one device at a time — if you've moved to a new machine, reset the key from your Whop orders page first.
